Mr. Zipperer,
I am writing to you from my home email address if you do not recognize it.
Recently, I joined the IFPO through you, and today I was granted my first
set of credentials for a sports event (baseball game). I just wanted to say
THANK YOU for showing me the IFPO, this never would have been possible
without your help!! I did have to contact the staff at American Image Press
(Today's Photographer) as the PR person from the event asked me some
questions that I wasn't sure how to answer. THEY (A.I. Press) WERE MORE
THAN HELPFUL, told me exactly how to answer them, resulting in my credential
approval!!!
I also contacted a local newspaper of which I have been trying to land a
'stringer' job with, without luck. Today, I contacted the sports editor,
told him I was credentialed for the aforementioned event, and that the
starting pitcher was the teams #1 draft pick, and asked him if he would be
interested in any images from the game. He seemed speechless and asked to
set up a meeting with me as soon as possible! Nothing for certain, but a
foot in the door!
Anyway, THANK'S again for introducing me to the IFPO and the Gold Press
program.
Sincerely & Appreciatively,
Dan Starcher

Hi Frank and everyone,
There is an event I would like to photograph next month. It's a
celebrity golf tournament..for charity...and I would like to be part
of the media group. I know I need to call the country club and see
what credentials are needed...I'm not sure how to ask the questions
or what they should be really. How do I approach it? Next, does
IFPO still send out a letter on the photogs behalf requesting you be
permitted to shoot? I have the gold press credentials and I would
like to do this and write a story for the magazine. I haven't taken
a picture in almost a year. I was ready to give up but I'm motivated
again. I thought this might be a good way to get me back and
involved once again. I just need a little direction.
Thanks and take care,
Sharon

Sharon,
The way I have done this in the past is to contact the venue and ask if they can give you a contact for media credentials. If the venue does not have a Press Office, then ask if they can give you a contact with the event organizing office. Once you have actually got the name and contact information, I would call the person in charge of issuing credentials and explain that you are accredited by American Image Press, the publisher of Today's Photographer magazine. Ask how they would prefer to receive your request. In some cases I have had people just have me to fax the letter that you received with your Gold Press package. In other cases I have had the press officer take my name and told me to just show up at the Media Office on the day of the event. Still other PR people wanted a letter. In that case I would compose a very brief letter, preferably with a letterhead that has all the methods of contacting you, asking that you be issued Press Credentials for the event. To this letter attach a COPY of the accrediting letter from IFPO (American Image). If necessary, the editor will confirm your credentials or you can use the verification online if they have that capability.
These are some of the experiences I've had. Anyone else who has been credentials have any suggestions for Sharon?
Best of luck to you Sharon. Let us all know how it turns out.
Frank

Hi again. I called the country club where the golf tournament I want
to photograph is being held and got the name and number of the person
who issues press credentials. I called her...very nice lady and
after talking to her for a moment (and being very tongue tied) she
said all I have to do is send her an e-mail and my home address and
she will mail out the pass. Simple!! Some of the Boston Bruins will
be participating in the tournament so I'm excited about that too.
It's going to be a great event and it benefits children's charities.
I'll write and tell you all about it when the time comes...June
23rd. I want to write a piece for Today's Photographer Magazine.
Thanks so much Frank for all your help and assistance.
Take care all,
Sharon

Hello,
I'm new to this group, but have been a member of IFPO now for about
a year.
IFPO helped me so far gain access to NASCAR, KC Ballet, The
Woodlands Horse & Greyhound Racing, and more!
I will be having a few questions as time goes on, but hope I can
find my answers back through the postings first.
Thanks!

I have been a member of the newsgroup for a while just to see what people have been saying about the IFPO. Well I am a believer now and a new member. I joined for my birthday May 28th. Been interested in photography all my life and took it seriously about 3 years ago and took some classes along with the graphic communications at my local community college. In fact I have taken so many photography classes I have delayed my graduation for at least 1 whole year. I have a lot of time on my hands what can I way. Anyway I am proud to be a member of such a fine group of folks and look forward to a lot of good information from Frank and from the rest of you fellow shutter bugs.

For me, I think this willl be the year that makes me or breaks me. I've been trying so hard and for so long. In all honesty though I guess I could have pushed harder. Really gone after what I wanted. I only did that on a couple of occasions. But now with IFPO behind me, how can I lose?? I didn't use their programs to the fullest extent before. The wheels are really turning now though.
Take care,
Sharon

If you would like to stay in touch with photographers who like to share experiences and techniques with other photographers, please join our IFPO Information group at Yahoo Groups.
Hi all,
I've been seeing all the good things happening and just wanted to share my latest achievement.
I'm a full-time photography major at Linn-Benton Community College in Albany, Oregon. I took a journalism class last fall and wrote for the school paper, I also had a few photos published with my articles. That was cool.
I have recently been informed that I have now landed a full-time photographers/ part-time reporters slot on the staff of our paper.
Our paper is "The Commuter", it was ranked "The Best" college newspaper in the state of Oregon for 2002. Not only is it an honor to be chosen, but it will really give me some practical experience doing photojournalism. I am just so stoked at this opportunity.
Please feel free to check out some of my work in the photo album on my site.

Hi all,
I agree as well.
Over the years I have heard quite a few negative things about IFPO, and their programs.
Well, that is their opinion, not mine.
I am 110% Happy, thankful and grateful for IFPO and their programs.
Because it is with their help & credentials, that have gotten me more respect as a photographer,
as well as into places, events, etc. That I would not have been allowed into otherwise,
so because of that, I ended up with many great photos.
Have a good day everyone, Stick with IFPO, they are well worth all the untrue negative things you may hear.

Greetings,
Having been a member with this organization for many years now, I have had no problems in regards to any issues. Any problems that would arise, the staff at the head office were able to quickly correct the situation in a timely fashion.
It is to be noted that there are many who think that this program is a total waste of time. Don't despair, stick with it.

My experience has been positive with IFPO. I have got into minor
league baseball dugouts to shoot. It also gets me into local stuff
(usually for free) when there are celebrities or athletes making
appearances.....
I am happy with the opportunities that the IFPO does provide and I
joined with the undserstanding that the IFPO is not AP.

Subject: Press Pass Works Again!
The local regional airport here in my hometown of Pitt Meadows held their annual Open House today, so I decided to go check it out early this morning. On my arrival, I discovered that the airport parking lot was closed to the general public as they were setting up local vendor displays there. I asked the official that was manning the entrance where the parking was, and he replied that it was back on the other road. I then showed him my press pass and asked where I could park, and he said "Oh, right here through this gate", so I got to park my vehicle inside the fenced property, right next to the terminal building. Later on, I got permission to go into the inner field between the two parallel runways to photograph some skydivers that would be landing right close to where I was.
These press credentials certainly help to get you into places where others are not allowed. I was able to get some nice photos that I would not have been able to otherwise. Thanks to American Image Press and IFPO, I am a happy man. Thank you!

The following unsolicited emails have been received from members of IFPO to express their success in working with IFPO and American Image Press (Publisher of Today's Photographer Magazine) and the press program credentials issued as a part of the Press Pass Credentials Program.
Dear Frank:
I have been a lifetime IFPO member for 20 years and I owe a lot to IFPO both in terms of motivation and getting started as a photographer to becoming a photojournalist, launching my own publication THE FIJI SUN in San Francisco Bay Area and on the way to publishing my own books soon.
Many thanks to IFPO, and I will be sending a write up for the IFPO magazine soon.
Wishing the very best.

I am Nancy and I went to photo the Queen and Duke on Monday but this is not the
only event that I have covered.... I have been at the White House many times....
It is a hard thing to get to do ... I have established people who I call but am
not allow to share. You have to get on thru Vonda...Most important is to have the
AI News Pass and you must have a passport.
